Napoli attacker Eduardo Vargas is reportedly on the verge of signing to Harry Redknapp’s QPR as the Chile international star undergoes his medical at Loftus Road this afternoon.
The 24-year-old had been lined up by Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal this summer with the player having been odds-on for a move to the Emirates, until reports emerged yesterday that Redknapp’s side had stepped up in a flash bid to hijack the Gunners’ proposal.
The QPR boss revealed that the club’s scouts had been tracking Vargas for a number of years and they were keen to bring him to the club to make use of his versatility as a playmaker and goal-scorer.
He told Sky Sports News: “Vargas is a quality player. He is sharp, he is bright.
“He can play up front, he can play as a No. 10.
“We’ve had reports on him for quite a while. One of our scouts who lives abroad has been following him for years now.
“It’s not done yet, but hopefully it is going to be done.”
With the Napoli player in west London this afternoon it is all-but a done deal with QPR and an official announcement is due in the next 24 hours.
