Crystal Palace are set to announce their new manager in the next 48 hours with former Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay odds-on favourite to take charge.

Mackay along with former Tottenham coach Tim Sherwood have both been interviewed for the position but Mackay is more likely to take the post owing to the fact he has a close friendship with Eagles Chairman Steve Parish and has previously worked with club sporting director Iain Moody.

The London side have been without a manager since Tony Pulis made a sudden departure the day before their season opener and caretaker Keith Miller took charge as Palace were narrowly defeated by Arsenal on Saturday.

Miller wants to be considered for the manager’s job himself, and following the club’s 2-1 loss at the Emirates, he told the BBC: “I know I can manage. I want to speak to the chairman and see which direction he wants to go in. If he has got belief in me, I will speak to him.”

Hot favourite Mackay was sacked from Cardiff City just four months after securing their first promotion to football’s top tier in 51 years, and was replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Second-in-line Sherwood was sacked from Tottenham at the end of last season after failing to get Spurs qualification for the Champions League tournament. Should he be appointed, he would add Les Ferdinand and Chris Ramsey to his coaching team at Selhurst Park.
