Conte warns Italy fans of ‘no talent’

Antonio Conte has warned fans of the Italian national side that his options to select a squad lack talent.

The former Juventus boss was named head coach of Italy last week, replacing successor Cesare Prandelli, who resigned following the country’s dismal World Cup campaign this summer in Brazil.

Conte will take up a two-year contract and was officially presented in Rome on Tuesday, and whilst he said that he was happy with his current options – he also bemoaned the depth of talent available to him for the future.

“I can’t say that I’m not emotional. I am very happy, very content. Everyone wants this job,” he told reporters at the press conference.

“I want to salute Cesare Prandelli, who was coach for four years and did great work. I wish him good luck at Galatasaray. I also want to thank Arrigo Sacchi for his work with the Italy youth sides these last years.

“I live to win. I live to search for wins. Other national teams have more talent than us. But playing as a team we can remove this gap. It is a challenge I willingly accept.”
