Rodgers calls on squad to replace Suarez

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has called on his squad to all contribute with goals this season to make up for the absence of Luis Suarez, who joined Barcelona.

Whilst Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge were amongst the goals as Liverpool beat Southampton on the opening weekend of the Premier League; boss Brendan Rodgers has remained cautious that the sale of Luis Suarez may come back to bite them.

The Uruguayan forward scored 31 goals in 33 games last season and was snapped up by La Liga giants Barcelona earlier this summer and Rodgers wants his squad to replace Suarez as a group by all contributing with goals this season.

“More goals from everyone – that’s the objective,” Rodgers told the club’s official website. “Everyone will want to improve. Raheem [Sterling] had 10 goals last year.

“It was a great pass by Jordan [Henderson, who set up Sterling’s opener on Sunday]. He picked him out really well with a wonderful ball and he gets himself in the box with a wonderful finish.

“It was a really good finish and that started to open up the game a bit, with a bit more space to work in. But they were dangerous opponents.”
