FT: Burnley 1-3 Chelsea

Chelsea proved too strong for Premier League new-boys Burnley, beating them 3-1 at Turf Moor.

Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea and Premier League new-boys Burnley were last of the 20 sides in England’s top flight to play their opening game of the new season and the game featured four goals within the first half.

Andre Schurrle linked with a summer exit seemed determined to prove himself to boss Mourinho and he came close when Cesc Fabregas supplied him with a superb through ball.

However against the run of play, Burnley would take the lead when Scott Arfield connected with a cross and sent his half-volley past Thibaut Courtois, making his first ever start for Chelsea.

Mourinho’s men were back on level terms just three minutes later when Burnley failed to clear their lines and new signing Diego Costa drilled the ball home.

The second half saw the Blues dominate but create very little to extend their lead, however, returning Didier Drogba almost scored late on after being hauled on by Mourinho.

Fabregas and Schurrle would then link up once more as the latter put the Londoners ahead with a low strike into the bottom corner.

Chelsea would the extend their lead before the break as Branislav Ivanovic lost his marker and volleyed into the roof of the net.
