Man United make a move for experienced Mexes

Manchester United have made a move to sign AC Milan defender Philippe Mexes, according to a report in Italian press.

Louis van Gaal’s defensive problems were all too clear to see on Saturday as his side lost 2-1 to Swansea City at Old Trafford and the Dutch boss has taken to his office on Monday morning and begun making a serious move for Philippe Mexes.

The veteran French defender is currently plying his trade for Italian giants AC Milan but it is understood that he would be allowed to leave for as little as £3m this summer, according to Corriere dello Sport.

Mexes, 32, has made over 300 appearances in Italian football having played for Roma before joining Milan in 2011.

He is thought to be keen in listening to United’s offer after seeing his chances of playing this coming season reduced due to the signings of Alex and Adil Rami.
