Lovren turned down Barcelona for Liverpool

Football Express News understands that new Liverpool centre-back Dejan Lovren turned down a lucrative move to Barcelona.

The Croatian defender has a relatively good World Cup for his country, despite their early exit and coupled with his performances for Southampton last season; gained plaudits from a number of top European clubs.

Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Juventus and Barcelona all showed interest, but Lovren completed a move to Liverpool last month.

However, it is understood that the central defender did reject a lucrative move to Barcelona for the chance to work with Brendan Rodgers and play at Anfield.

Barca were keen to add Lovren to their defence and improve their options but were helpless in tempting Lovren to Camp Nou; completing a move for Thomas Vermaelen from Arsenal instead.

It is also understood that Man United made a serious offer for the defender which was also rejected.
