Arsenal are close to completing a move for Napoli striker Eduardo Vargas, who will join on a season-long loan.
The arrival of Alexis Sanchez this season at the Emirates stadium saw the former Barcelona man recommend international team-mate Vargas as a potential summer signing.
And, according to South American newspaper La Tercera, it is now looking extremely likely that the Napoli forward will join the Gunners on a one-year loan deal.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger currently had Olivier Giroud and Yaya Sanogo as his striker options but the French boss is keen to add extra fire power to his side and was keen on Vargas’s performances on loan with La Liga side Valencia last season.
The 24-year-old helped Chile reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Brazil this summer and holds a good on-field partnership with Alexis.
Should he arrive this week, Vargas will be Arsenal’s fifth summer signing, following Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy, Calum Chambers and David Ospina.
