Redknapp slaps £20m price tag on Remy

QPR boss Harry Redknapp has slapped a £20m price tag on his highly-prized striker Loic Remy in the hope it will deter rival clubs from making a move for the player.

Remy, who saw his proposed £8.5m move to Liverpool collapse this summer due to a failed medical, returned to Loftus Road and his manager Redknapp believes that the striker’s valuation has now doubled.

Redknapp told Sky Sports: “If you look at the prices of strikers at the moment, it’s incredible.

“To me he should be a £20m striker in comparison to other strikers who are getting sold for £11m or £12m.

“To have lost him for the amount we were going to would have been too cheap so to have him back here is fantastic.

“The chairman wants him to stay and we hope he does. He would have been a fantastic buy for Liverpool at that money, so their loss is our gain.”

Redknapp believes his QPR front-line is well-reinforced with 27-year-old Remy along with fan’s favourite Charlie Austin, 25, and former England striker Bobby Zamora, 33, who signed a one-year deal with the west London side following their promotion to the Premier League this summer.

“We’ve got Charlie Austin, Loic and Bobby Zamora, so we’ve got three strikers. In an ideal world you’d like one more but we are not close to doing any other business at the moment.”

In Redknapp’s pursuit of Premier League survival this season he has reinforced his side defensively too, with the additions of ex-Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand and Chile international Mauricio Isla, who he has acquired on loan from Juventus.
