Ex-Chelsea star offers to join Liverpool

Former Chelsea hitman Samuel Eto’o has offered his services to Liverpool, Football Express News can reveal.

A source close to Anfield told FEN the 33-year-old is anxious to remain in the Premier League following his free transfer departure from Stamford Bridge and believes he can strengthen the Reds’ threadbare strikeforce.

The departure of talisman Luis Suarez to Barcelona, new signing Divock Origi’s loan return to Lille and the failed bid for Queens Park Rangers attacker Loic Remy leaves boss Brendan Rodgers short of options in the final third of the pitch.

However, despite the fact that free agent Eto’o does not command a fee, the Liverpool insider intimated that he would have to lower his salary expectations, even if Rodgers declares an interest in a short-term deal.

Cameroon international Eto’o, whose involvement in the World Cup came to a premature end courtesy of a group stage exit, left west London earlier in the summer after running down the final weeks of his contract.

When Serie A champions Juventus contacted his representatives they are believed to have pursued a 24-month contract worth somewhere in the region of £3.1million per year, but most suitors have so far only offered a one-year arrangement.

Eto’o plundered 12 goals for Jose Mourinho’s side in all competitions last term after arriving from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala at the end of August last year.
