La Liga defender to have Liverpool medical today

Sevilla defender Alberto Moreno will undergo a medical today ahead of his proposed £12million move to Liverpool, Football Express News understands.

A source close to Anfield told FEN the Reds do not anticipate any last-minute obstacles, having agreed the fee and personal terms, and he could be unveiled before the weekend.

The 22-year-old was in floods of tears at the end of his current side’s 2-0 loss to La Liga rivals Real Madrid in last night’s Uefa Super Cup, which was contested in Cardiff.

It was seen as the clearest indication yet that the Spain international has made up his mind to quit the club in order to make the move to Merseyside.

If the deal does get over the finishing line, Moreno will become Liverpool’s eighth summer acquisition.

They have already lured trio Dejan Lovren, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert from Southampton and snapped up Bayer Leverkusen’s Emre Can and Lazar Markovic from Benfica.

Full-back Javier Manquillo has penned a two-season loan arrangement from Atletico Madrid, while striker Divock Origi completed a switch from Lille before rejoining the French outfit on loan.

The imminent arrival of Moreno is expected to result in the departure of defender Martin Kelly to Crystal Palace this week.
