AC Milan sign Real Madrid goalkeeper

AC Milan have completed the signing of Spanish international goalkeeper Diego Lopez from Real Madrid for a fee believed to be in the region of £8m.

Lopez, who has been the Champions League holders’ number one choice for the past two La Liga campaigns, travelled to Italy this afternoon to undertake his medical with the Serie A giants.

The 32-year old controversially replaced Iker Casillas in Madrid’s goal under the management of both Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti and has been deemed surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu following the arrival of Costa Rica international Keylor Navas.

Lopez told Milan’s official website “A new stage of my career is about to begin, I thank both clubs for giving me the opportunity to be here.”

This is the first time that the goalkeeper will ply his trade outside of his native Spain having had spells with Lugo, Alcorcon, Villarreal, Sevilla and Real Madrid.

Astonishingly this is the second time that Lopez has departed the champions of Europe having left the club in 2007, only to return six years later, and now he is on the move again.

The Rossoneri are also set to sign Colombian winger Pablo Armero on a season-long loan deal from fellow Serie A side Udinese as a replacement for the departed Kevin Constant.
