Toure close to signing for Trabzonspor

Liverpool defender Kolo Toure is close to sealing a transfer to Turkish side Trabzonspor for a fee believed to be around £1.5m.

According to the Daily Mirror the 33-year old is keen to move on after becoming the fifth choice centre-back at Anfield under manager Brendan Rodgers, with Mamadou Sakho, Martin Skrtel, Daniel Agger and new signing Dejan Lovren all being above him in the pecking order.

The Ivory Coast international has only spent one year at Merseyside after joining on a free transfer from Premier League rivals Manchester City last summer, where he left his younger brother Yaya Toure.

Trabzonspor president Ibrahim Haciosmanoglu said in an official club statement released yesterday: “we have agreed terms with Kolo Toure and we will bring him to the club.”

The central-defender made 24 appearances for Liverpool last season and helped the Reds finish close runners-up behind Manchester City, who won the Premier League title race by just two points.

Toure has played in England’s top flight for over a decade having served stints at Arsenal, City and Liverpool.

The Ivorian’s glittering record of success in England includes two Premier League titles, three Community Shields and three FA Cups, and he was a part of the Arsenal side dubbed ‘the invincibles’ that stormed to Premier League glory in 2004.

Toure is not the only centre-back to be linked with a move away from Liverpool this summer as it has been widely rumoured that Daniel Agger may also quit the club following his lack of appearances during last season’s domestic campaigns.
