David Silva has signed a new five-year contract at Manchester City, which will see the Spanish international stay with the Premier League champions until 2019.

Silva, who joined the big-spenders back in 2010 from Spanish La Liga side Valencia, will be 33 when his new deal runs out at the Etihad stadium.

The 80-times capped Spain midfielder told Man City’s official website “from the moment I joined the club four years ago it has felt like a second home to me.

“On and off the pitch I feel incredibly content and fulfilled professionally and personally, so why wouldn’t I want to stay and keep winning trophies with this fantastic team.

“When I look around this dressing room, I can see no reason why we won’t become one of the top teams in the world. It was a straight-forward decision to stay here and spend my peak years at Manchester City, a club with unbelievable fans who have always supported me.”

Since his arrival in Manchester, Silva has helped City win two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, the League Cup and the Community Shield and will once again play a crucial part in Manuel Pellegrini’s side this season as they look to contend for the Champions League.

The 28-year-old joins fellow team-mates Samir Nasri and Aleksandar Kolarov in extending their contracts with the Manchester giants this summer.
