Spurs given hope for Serie A raid

Savic

Tottenham Hotspur have been handed encouragement in their pursuit of Fiorentina defender Stefan Savic after the Viola reportedly conceded they might have to cash in.

According to La Nazione the Serie A outfit must sell players before they can buy and, if midfielder Juan Cuadrado’s potential switch to champions Juventus does not materialise, Savic has been identified as the man to sacrifice.

While Fiorentina are reluctant to part company with the towering centre-half they are aware of the financial realities facing them and believe they could receive somewhere in the region of £9million for his services.

A source close to White Hart Lane told Football Express News that Spurs remain interested in the former Manchester City defender and may capitalise on his club’s fiscal woes.

However, if Cuadrado does depart during the summer transfer window, Fiorentina will do all they can to keep hold of Savic and are likely to offer the 23-year-old an improved contract.

He has impressed at the heart of their backline after joining two years ago, as part of the deal which took Matija Nastasic to the Etihad Stadium.

The Montenegro international spent the 2011-12 campaign with the Blues and helped them clinch their first ever Premier League title, although he fell behind Joleon Lescott in the pecking order.
