Swansea in De Guzman stalemate

Swansea City have all but given up their pursuit of signing former on-loan player Jonathan De Guzman on a permanent deal, with the midfielder still stalling over where he wishes to spend his near future.

The 26-year-old Villareal player has spent two seasons on loan with Swansea. The Welsh club have been working towards acquiring him on a permanent basis this summer but appear to have hit stalemate.

With the midfielder still undecided about where he would like to spend his future, this has frustrated Swansea manager Garry Monk.

“We talked to him earlier in the summer, he wanted to keep his options open and I suppose they still are,” the Swans boss told The Daily Express.

“But I do not anticipate him coming back at this moment in time, we have not got time to wait around.

“With the people we have brought in we are trying to move on as quickly as possible as it is such a short period of time.

“With the high turnover of players we have had, and trying to get as much information across to them as possible, we have not got time to wait around.

“I am not closing the door on it, if it happens it happens, but he was the one who decided to keep his options open and we cannot afford to wait about,” he concluded.

De Guzman has spent the last two seasons at The Liberty Stadium, scoring 15 goals in 43 matches.  He still has two years left on his contract with the La Liga side.

Harry Redknapp’s QPR are also understood interested in the 26-year-old, who featured in Netherland’s 2014 World Cup squad.
