Baggies captain speaks out on new deal

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Chris Brunt says he hopes to build on the past as he puts pen-to-paper on new three-year-contract.

The Baggies midfielder, who has been club captain since 2010, completed the deal yesterday and hopes to keep West Brom in the Premier League.

“Obviously we’ve had some really good times and we’ve also had a couple of bad ones,” the 29-year-old told the club’s official website.

“But 99% of my time here has been really good, I’ve enjoyed it, we’ve had some really good results, great seasons.

“I’m just looking to build on that and hopefully keep us in the Premier League for the remainder of the contract that I’ve got.

“That’s got to be my goal personally, to help the team achieve that.”

The Northern Ireland international joined The Hawthorns in 2007 and went on to score 40 goals in 249 appearances.

He maintained the role of captain after the arrival of new manager Alan Irvine and his contract will see him remain at the club until 2017.

Brunt will lead the side in next week’s opening day fixture at home to Sunderland.
