Italian giants step up Falcao pursuit

AC Milan have reportedly contacted representatives of Monaco striker Radamel Falcao in an attempt to lure him to Serie A this summer.

Italian source TuttoSport claims the San Siro giants’ vice-president Adriano Galliani has called Nelio Lucas, president of Doyen Sports, the investment fund controlling the interests of the Colombia international.

The report reveals Milan are interested in pulling off the ambitious raid even if they do not part company with enigmatic hitman Mario Balotelli before the start of the 2014-15 campaign.

Filippo Inzaghi has taken over from Clarence Seedorf as head coach and is said to have requested an influx of world class players as he looks to transform the sleeping giants’ fortunes.

They finished last term in eighth position in the league table and failed to make an impression in the Champions League.

TuttoSport says Falcao has expressed an interest in testing himself in a different league and Doyen Sports could help the deal become a reality by paying part of his salary or some of the transfer fee.

The 28-year-old, who still has four years remaining on his contract in France, is currently recovering from the knee injury he sustained in January, which forced him to miss this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
