Draxler unhappy with performances for Schalke

Julian Draxler has said that he was left unhappy with his performances at club level last season and that he wants to improve his level of play.

German youngster Draxler has been given a £37m buy-out clause due heavy interest from a number of top European clubs but the talented winger feels his performances at club level for Schalke last season were not that of a someone valued close to the £40m mark.

Speaking to Bild, Draxler feels that his valuation was a hindrance last season, affecting his performances and that he wants to push on now and improve his form.

“The [buy-out clause] stayed with me,” he said. “I did not play like 20 clubs were ready to pay this sum for me last season. I have to become attractive to big clubs again.

“Now I know what it’s meant to be the bogeyman. After the derby loss to Dortmund, it felt like I was the only one who was blamed for it.”

Draxler scored just two goals in 26 Bundesliga appearances last season, but he is hoping to improve that tally this coming season.

“This season, 10 goals should be possible for me. If our squad stays together, we can compete for the top three places. We can compete with Dortmund and Bayern.”
