Robinho deal close to completion

AC Milan striker Robinho is due to complete a move back to his homeland with Brazilian side Santos believed to have agreed to resign him on the basis he takes a considerable pay cut.

The 30-year-old has spent nine years playing for top clubs this side of the Atlantic including Real Madrid, Manchester City and currently, AC Milan.  He is understood to have been wishing to return home for a period of time owing to feeling unsettled after spending four years at the San Siro.

In a bid to break free of his contract with Milan – which runs until June 2016 – and push through a move back to Brazil, the forward has agreed to take a huge drop in wages and rejoin the first club to have given him a professional contract in his teens.

The deal looks set to go ahead with Santos’ vice-president Odilio Rodrigues publicly stating he is keen to bring the player home and confirming discussions have taken place surrounding financials.

“Although many Italian outlets have taken for granted the return of Robinho, I can confirm to you that negotiations are progressing well,” he told the club’s media outlet Santos TV.

“We are doing everything possible to sign the player and he has also lowered his initial demands.

“We have huge hope that the transfer will be complete soon. We hope to give the fans this gift as soon as possible.”

Robinho is reported to have snubbed a big-money offer from US Major League Soccer (MLS) side Orlando City, where he would have had the chance to play next season with Brazil international comrade and former Milan team-mate Kaka.
