Atletico Madrid midfielder Arda Turan has stated that he believes Real Madrid and Barcelona are no longer the best club in La Liga.
The Turkish midfielder has strongly been linked with a move away from Atletico Madrid this summer, with some reports stating that he will follow former team-mates Thibaut Courtois, Diego Costa and Filipe Luis to England, where the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool have shown interest.
However, looking ahead to the new La Liga season, Turan has been discussing his side’s chances of retaining their La Liga title, claiming that his side are still better than Barcelona and Real Madrid.
“Our Turkish fans shouted ‘captain’ when I arrived,” he told reporters. “It is an honour, but I’m only one person in this team and we have to think about the game too.
“For us it is a very important game and we have to win all we have left before the Supercopa de Espana against Real Madrid. I’m working hard, I’m at the best club in Spain. I am a key cog in Simeone’s system.
“Young Turks must leave Turkey like me to develop their technique.”
