Liverpool to make Coutinho an offer he can’t refuse

Liverpool are hoping their prized playmaker Philippe Coutinho will sign a new contract in advance of the new season, with boss Brendan Rodgers urging the Brazilian to commit to the Reds for ‘a period of time.’

Liverpool coach Rodgers cannot stop singing the praises of his 22-year-old winger. Only a fortnight he had dubbed Coutinho the “brain of the team” and is now pressing for a new deal to be signed with the club reportedly about to make the Brazilian an offer he can’t refuse.

“I am not sure when it will be done,” the Northern Irishman said at a press conference in Miami following the Reds’ pre-season clash against Manchester United.

“I haven’t spoken to any of the directors in the last few days so I am not sure where we are on that, but obviously he (Coutinho) is someone we want to tie up for a period of time.”

Coutinho signed to Liverpool from Inter Milan in January 2013 for £8.5m and has made his firm mark on the Reds under Rodgers’ leadership.  The skilful playmaker has already established himself as a fan’s favourite and is fast-becoming one of the stand-out creative attacking players in the Premier League, having doubled his market value in the past 18 months to around £16m.

The skilful No.10 played 33 of 38 Premier League fixtures for Liverpool last season and scored five goals, including both home and away against champions Manchester City.
