Redknapp plots bid for United midfielder

Queens Park Rangers are lining up an offer for Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley, Football Express News understands.

A source close to Loftus Road told FEN the England international is high on the list of summer transfer window targets who can now be pursued following QPR’s promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Harry Redknapp’s team edged out Derby County 1-0 in the Championship play-off final at Wembley despite playing for the last 30 minutes of the contest with 10 men, following Gary O’Neil’s dismissal.

Bobby Zamora’s 90th-minute strike ensured the London outfit returned to the top flight at the first time of asking and are now able to pursue the more high-profile names they identified when compiling a list of names to chase.

The club insider revealed QPR are quietly confident that Cleverley’s fall down the pecking order at Old Trafford means he could be interested in embarking on a fresh challenge, with the promise of regular first-team football.

Cleverley’s contract with United will expire at the end of the upcoming campaign and his lack of playing time at the club has seen the 24-year-old lose his place in the England side.

He was left out of the Three Lions squad for this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
