Liverpool legend Carragher: We will not win title

Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher does not think his former side will end their wait for a first Premier League title in this coming season.

The ex-England international, who retired 12 months ago after spending his entire career at Anfield, believes rivals Chelsea will finish the 2014-15 campaign at the top of the table.

Jose Mourinho’s men came third last term, one place behind Liverpool, but their memorable 2-0 win on Merseyside in the closing weeks of the season handed the initiative back to eventual champions Manchester City.

Carragher expects Mourinho to shake off the disappointment of failing to win a trophy upon his return to west London by guiding his team to the title this time around.

He said on Twitter: “Chelsea are my tip for the title.”

Liverpool were last term’s surprise package, with many pundits tipping them to battle it out for a Champions League spot but few anticipating a genuine challenge for top spot.

Boss Brendan Rodgers appeared to be on course to take the Reds to their first title since the Premier League era began, but the home loss to Chelsea was followed by a 3-3 draw at Crystal Palace, who came back from 3-0 down, and City capitalised.
