Four goal Sanogo steals Alexis Sanchez’s limelight

Yaya Sanogo was the hero as Arsenal comfortably beat Benfica 5-1 in the Emirates Cup on Saturday.

Thousands arrived at the Emirates stadium on Saturday afternoon to see the first glimpse of Arsene Wenger’s new and improved Arsenal; keen to see £35m man Alexis Sanchez.

And, they saw their side produce a sublime display with the likes of Yaya Sanogo and Joel Campbell giving boss Wenger something to think about with the season fast approaching.

Chilean international Alexis did feature but only late on as the game had filtered out into a real training match feel.

Costa Rican Campbell was looking lively from the off for the Gunners and could have had a penalty in the first two minutes after being pushed down in the box by Eliseu.

However, it would not take long for Arsenal to impose themselves on the match and they did when Aaron Ramsey played in the waiting Sanogo, who tapped home his first goal in pre-season.

Moments later and Campbell would get himself on the scoresheet after a superb cross from impressive full-back Hector Bellerin.

Sanogo would then score twice in the space of a two minutes to give himself a first half hat-trick and put the tie beyond the Portuguese side.

The second half began with substitute Santi Cazorla finding Sanogo in the box and the youngster did all he could to tap beyond the Benfica keeper and add his fourth.

Nico Gaitan did add a late consolation for the visitors but it was Arsenal’s day and one that will have their fans excited for the coming season.
