Football Express News understands that Tottenham Hotspur are set to announce the summer signing of Mateo Musacchio from Villarreal.
The 23-year-old defender has been linked with a summer exit from Spanish side Villarreal after yet another impressive season at the El Madrigal, prompting the likes of Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Barcelona and Spurs all to show interest.
Villarreal have maintained that they want to hold on to the Argentina national but would be willing to sell if they received an offer in the region of £20m and it is understood that Spurs have made a bid in that region which has been dually accepted.
A debate over Musacchio’s contract had stopped interest in him last month after it was unsure how many years he had left on his current deal, however, contact between Villarreal and Spurs has been constant and those problems have since been sorted, thus allowing the move to happen.
It is now expected that Spurs will announce the deal either on Sunday or the beginning of next week after the central defender was left out of his side’s pre-season friendly with Middlesbrough.
