Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has warned Manchester United fans not expect instant success under the management of Louis van Gaal.

Fans of Man United endured arguably their toughest season in the Premier League last term under the management of former Everton boss David Moyes but they have since become buoyed by the arrival of Louis van Gaal.

Van Gaal, who guided Netherlands to the semi-finals of the World Cup in Brazil last month has already made several changes to the United side and plans for more.

However, Real Madrid boss Ancelotti has cast doubt over the instant success of United and insisted that it will not be easy for the former Barca boss to get his methods across.

“It will not be easy to win in the first year because there are many competitive teams who want to win. It is not easy to implement a new system,” he told reporters. “It is important that the player is convinced but it is difficult to say how long it will take.

“He is a very good and very experienced manager, he has fantastic experience and he will do a fantastic job at United. He is a manager who has nothing to learn. After Ferguson, it was more difficult for United, but they now have to rebuild a team.

“They have signed good players but building a team is not easy and the Premier League is a very competitive league.”
