Simeone discusses chances of signing Man United striker

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has discussed the chances of making a summer move for Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez.

The Mexican striker has been deemed surplus to requirements at United after the arrival of Dutch boss Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.

Interest from a number of top European clubs including the likes of Inter Milan and Valencia emerged but following the World Cup in Brazil – Atletico Madrid have been strongly linked as they seek to find a suitable replacement for Diego Costa, who joined Chelsea.

Mario Mandzukic has arrived from Bayern Munich, but Hernandez is also expected to make a move from England to the Spanish capital this summer.

And, Diego Simeone has discussed the chances of signing the Mexican, saying anything is possible in the summer transfer window.

“We talked to the sporting director, discussed the idea of the player we want, then it is he who brings the player,” AS quote Simeone as saying.

“With Hernandez and a lot of good players, anything is possible. You can’t close the door until the market closes.

“He’s a forward-thinking player, good in one-on-ones, and an option that can help any team.”
