Keita explains reasons for Pepe incident

Roma midfielder Seydou Keita has revealed the reasons between an incident that saw him involved with Real Madrid’s Pepe.

The pre-season friendly between Roma and Real Madrid in Dallas, Texas saw two former foes re-ignite their argument as Seydou Keita refused to shake hands with Pepe and then threw a water bottle at the Portuguese defender before the match started.

The actions from the Mali midfielder were not acted upon by the referee but did start a small brawl between Roma and Real Madrid players, with Sergio Ramos and Xabi Alonso both verbally attacking the former Barcelona midfielder.

Ketia and Pepe have been involved in arguments in the past after the Real Madrid defender called Keita a ‘monkey’ during the first leg of the Spanish SuperCopa in 2011.

Pepe was caught on cameras spitting at Keita by the FOX broadcast, after which Keita threw a water bottle at the defender.

And, following the incident, Keita has discussed what sparked his frustrations on social media site Twitter: “1 He calls me a monkey during Madrid Barca 2 I did not shake his hand 3 He spits on me after I throw a bottle. I am sorry for my attitude,” he wrote.
