Callejon discusses reported Rafa Benitez rift

Spanish forward Jose Callejon has hit back at reports that he fell out with coach Rafael Benitez and is happy to remain at Napoli.

The former Espanyol and Real Madrid attacking midfielder was reported to have been involved in a heated argument with Benitez last week and was sent out of training by the former Liverpool coach.

However, he has countered such talk by saying that he is happy at the Italian club and believes Benitez is the perfect man to get the best of out of him in terms of form and ability.

“It was a very important year for me. I found it hard to come to a different country and a city I did not know but the coach called me and convinced me,” he told Marca.

“From that moment, I tried to learn Italian and adjust to my new life as quickly as possible. I am very happy at Napoli. It was a risky decision and difficult to leave Madrid but I am very comfortable.

“Rafa really understands me. He has trust in me and gave me this chance that I was missing in Madrid. And last season I played every game.

“A player needs continuity, regularity, to be important to the team, and the Coach has given that to me.

“It’s clear that I feel important and I’ve had minutes. Things are going well. When a player feels valued by the Coach, for his love and that of the club, it’s clear he’ll be very happy.”
