BREAKING: Everton complete £28m Lukaku deal

Everton has completed a club record £28m move for Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea.

After weeks of negotiations over the future of Belgian international Lukaku, Everton have finally completed a permanent deal for the striker, securing him on a five-year contract.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Goodison Park and had an impressive time under boss Roberto Martinez, scoring 15 Premier League goals.

But, his return to parent club Chelsea caused doubt amongst Everton fans, who had called for him to stay on Merseyside.

After agreeing a fee with Chelsea, Everton were ready to announce the deal on Wednesday morning but last minute paperwork saw them forced to wait until later that evening.

The reported fee for Lukaku is £28m, a club record fee for Everton, exceeding that of Marouane Fellaini’s £15m fee in 2008.

Roberto Martinez spoke about the deal briefly to reporters: “It’s a very significant day in the history of our Club. Signing Rom is every Evertonian’s wish.”
