Uruguay ace Luis Suarez has authorised the release of an old video in which he reveals it was his always ultimate goal to play for La Liga giants Barcelona.
The 27-year-old striker completed his sensational move from Liverpool to Barcelona for a staggering £75m earlier this month.
A short six-year-old piece of footage has emerged in Spanish press today which shows the player – as a 21-year-old – talking about his Barcelona dream whilst signed to Dutch side Ajax.
During the interview, which was filmed in 2008, Suarez admits he has his eyes set on the prize and tells the reporter in Spanish: “I used to dream of playing for Barcelona and I still do.”
A personal friend of the player, Uruguayan journalist Marcos Vitette, had dug out the footage and got in touch with Suarez to ask for permission to release it to the press.
Suarez agreed and Vitette has circulated the 22-second clip in Spain this afternoon. He told Spanish news outlet MARCA that Suarez was quite amused by it as his hair looked ‘awful.’
“When he watched the clip back, he said that he sounded a little haughty and that his hair looked awful,” the journalist said.
Suarez is currently serving a four-month ban owing to the act of violence he committed at this summer’s World Cup. He bit Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini which instantly disqualified him from the remainder of Uruguay’s World Cup campaign.
Barca’s big-money signing is set to miss a number of early season fixtures for his new club, however the Catalans are understood to be preparing their approach to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and are confident they will win their appeal to get his sentence reduced.
