QPR line up bid for United winger

Queens Park Rangers have stepped up their pursuit of Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia, Football Express News understands.

A source close to Loftus Road told FEN the newly-promoted London outfit have made the 28-year-old a top priority for their summer transfer window recruitment drive.

The insider revealed QPR have high hopes of landing Valencia for a relatively modest fee as he has less than 12 months remaining on his current contract at Old Trafford.

He featured prominently in the Red Devils’ torrid 2013-14 campaign, which saw them finish seventh in the Premier League table and end the season without a piece of silverware.

However, he is awaiting news on his status at the club following the appointment of Holland head coach Louis van Gaal as the new manager and faces competition from youngsters Wilfried Zaha and Adnan Januzaj next term.

QPR, who achieved promotion at the first time of asking courtesy of a dramatic 1-0 triumph over Derby County in the Championship play-off final at Wembley in May, are actively pursuing targets in several positions.

Boss Harry Redknapp is anxious to bolster his squad after seeing some of the playing staff depart upon the expiration of their contracts and he will hope to secure Valencia’s services in the coming weeks.

He is said to be hopeful that the presence of ex-United defender Rio Ferdinand will convince Valencia to join the ranks.
