Duo lift lid on switch to Hull

Hull City have completed the signings of defenders Harry Maguire and Andrew Robertson on three-year contracts.

Steve Bruce’s outfit have reinforced their back-four with the acquisition of two up-and-coming youngsters.

Sheffield United’s highly-rated centre-back Maguire, 21, along with Dundee United and Scotland international left-back Robertson, 20, have both penned deals with the Tigers to the value of £2.5m and £2.85m respectively.

Maguire, who came up through the youth academy at the League One side, broke into the first team in 2011 and made 134 appearances for the Yorkshire-based club in three seasons.

He did not hesitate to jump at the opportunity but it appeared to be with great regret that the Blades let him go.

United are understood to have rejected the first and second offers tabled by Hull and reluctantly accepted the third owing to Maguire’s request to leave.

Maguire told Sky Sports News: “Ever since I knew Hull were interested it was a deal that I wanted to complete and go through. It took a long time but in the end I am here.

“It’s been a whirlwind, the clubs were trying to agree a fee and I’ve just been sat waiting.

“Obviously since I knew Hull were wanting to get my signature, I couldn’t really turn it down, the opportunity to play in probably the best league in the world and the chance to play in the Europa League.

“Playing week-in, week-out, is different to playing against some of the best players in the world, but obviously it’s something I think I can cope with otherwise I wouldn’t be here.”

Robertson is equally as excited to be heading for the Premier League and has left Dundee following a prolific season during which he played all but two of the club’s league fixtures.

“I’m delighted it’s over the finish line now and I’m just looking forward to meeting the boys and getting started,” he said.

“I think this is just the right step for me and I’m looking forward now to playing in the biggest league in the world. I’m relishing it.

“I’ve got belief in myself and my ability that hopefully I can push for a place in the starting eleven.”

The defensive duo have joined the Tigers just in time for the start of their Europa League campaign, which kicks off on Thursday in Slovakia against Fortuna Liga side AS Trencin.
