Striker speaks out on West Ham switch

Ecuador international striker Enner Valencia has completed his £12m move to West Ham after being granted his work permit at a hearing this afternoon.

The 25-year-old World Cup star has officially left his Mexican side Pachuca and been signed, sealed and delivered to new boss Sam Allardyce at Upton Park.

The agreement had been made earlier this month with the player having passed his medical, but completion of the deal was subject to a work permit.

Valencia has not hesitated in connecting with supporters of his new club and has done this by way of a message to them on the club’s official website.

He reveals how much he looks forward to playing for their club and that he will endeavour to display similar stunning performances for the Hammers as he did for the Ecuador fans in Brazil this summer.

“I really appreciate the welcome I’ve been given and I’m excited to be here,” he said.

“I’ve already watched and read a lot about the club to learn about it. I know the fans are really passionate and I’m really glad to have signed.

“Of course, the World Cup gives me confidence to come to Europe and I want to take and advance with this opportunity that West Ham have given to me.

Valencia spoke of his excitement at being in London and the prospect of playing in the Premier League, which he considers the best football league in the world. He is hopeful of replicating the success of compatriot Antonio Valencia, who plays for Manchester United.

He added: “The Premier League is the top league and I have followed it in Mexico. Obviously my countryman Antonio Valencia has played here for a long time so it’s a big step for me to come here from Mexico and I hope I can be as successful as Antonio.

“It’s exciting to be here in England and London. I want to repay the club in my performances for what they are investing in me and I’m really looking forward to it.”
