Milan star hits back at doubters after City thrashing

AC Milan midfielder Sulley Muntari has vowed to prove critics wrong following last night’s dismal 5-1 defeat at the hands of a rampant Manchester City.

The sides met in the International Champions Cup as part of their pre-season tour of the USA and Filippo Inzaghi’s side collapsed despite the absence of a string of the Blues’ key players.

Goals from Stevan Jovetic, Scott Sinclair, Jesus Navas and Kelechi Iheanacho put Manuel Pellegrini’s side in complete control within half-an-hour before defender Alex pulled one back for Milan before the break.

Jovetic’s second of the game compounded the Italians’ misery but ex-Portsmouth man Muntari remained upbeat and told Milan Channel: “We are doing well in training, the ideas of the coach are positive for us players.

“We can get to the top, I have so much confidence in the things the boss is doing.

“We aim to concentrate our strength for the start of the season and work hard. This year we lower our head, we put our feet on the ground and work.

“I have so much confidence that the boss is the right one because there is so much respect and collaboration.

“Inzaghi knows how we can win. Now it is not his fault, not the fault of anyone. We are training and growing. We must continue to work hard and achieve the results we desire.”
