Mourinho discusses Ashley Cole’s replacement

Jose Mourinho has discussed his decision to sign Brazilian full-back Filipe Luis from Atletico Madrid this summer.

The former Deportivo La Coruna defender will arrive take over from English full-back Ashley Cole at Stamford Bridge next season after he left Chelsea for Italian side Roma earlier this month.

Cole had an important eight years with the London based club and played a big part in their successful Premier League title win 2010 and their Champions League success in 2012, making Luis’ job bigger than usual.

But, boss Jose Mourinho is confident the defender can fill the boots of Cole and play an important part in Chelsea’s title bid next season.

“After signing Cesc, we needed a good left back,” Mourinho told AS.

“I think that Filipe will give us a lot of stability and new alternatives, since I can player Cesar Azpilicueta at right-back and move Branislav Ivanovic to his central position.

“That was our goal and all I needed.”
