Inter close in as Hernandez tells United he will quit

Inter Milan will enter into final negotiations with Manchester United in Washington as they close in on a deal for striker Javier Hernandez, according to fresh reports in the Italian media.

TuttoSport claims Hernandez has already decided to quit the Red Devils and the Serie A outfit believe their good relationship with their Premier League counterparts will get the transfer over the finishing line.

The two sides meet in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday, by which stage a deal could already be in place.

Inter are still considering the idea of including midfielder Fredy Guarin as part of the package, in the knowledge that United have lost Michael Carrick to injury for around three months.

The San Siro giants’ failure to qualify for the Champions League means they need to shift some of their highest earners off the wage bill so they can fund incoming transfers.

Last month they offered Guarin to La Liga heavyweights Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid without success, but they feel more confident that United will take him off their hands.

Ambitious Inter owner Erick Thohir has told officials to use Tuesday’s match as an opportunity to sit down and finalise the transfer, unless it is completed in the next 48 hours.
