Barcelona line up £11m Liverpool raid

Barcelona will reportedly make an offer for Liverpool defender Daniel Agger if their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain centre-half Martquinhos falls through.

According to Catalan publication Sport, the La Liga giants will test the Reds’ resolve to hold on to the player by submitting an £11million bid to secure his services.

It hinges on the outcome of their long-running attempt to land Marquinhos from cash-rich PSG, and they expect an answer in the coming week.

If the 20-year-old proves to be out of reach, Agger will jump to the top of head coach Luis Enrique’s wishlist and the Denmark international is likely to jump at the chance to leave Merseyside.

Earlier this month he lifted the lid on the uncertainty surrounding his future during an interview in his homeland with newspaper BT.

Agger is unhappy at having slipped down the pecking order under boss Brendan Rodgers last term, losing his place in the side to Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho.

The 29-year-old said: “It is not a secret that I had problems last season and so I’m considering things.

“A situation such as that last year is not acceptable to me. For the moment, however, I’m here and I’ll show the manager that I am able to play.”

Agger has two years remaining on his contract at Anfield.
