Ex-Arsenal star demands more money

Gervinho

Former Arsenal wideman Gervinho is caught up in a contract dispute with Serie A outfit Roma, according to fresh reports in the Italian media.

Speculation has been rife since the end of last season that the Ivory Coast international is unhappy with the terms of his current deal, just one year after departing the Emirates Stadium.

And Italian source Time claims the 27-year-old will seek parity with some of Roma’s biggest earners in light of the club’s attempt to keep hold of coveted defender Mehdi Benatia by offering him more money.

The report reveals Gervinho’s desire to take home bigger bonuses and his determination to see his contract altered despite the deal having three years left to run.

Should the versatile attacker, who is capable of operating on both flanks or through the middle, impress during Ivory Coast’s World Cup campaign in Brazil, he could put himself in a commanding position ahead of potential negotiations with Roma.

Scouts from top clubs across the globe will be present throughout the tournament to keep a close eye on the leading performers and Gervinho is likely to put himself in the shop window if he manages to produce a string of stand-out displays.

Last season he scored nine goals in 33 appearances for Roma.
