Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a bid for Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani as a replacement for Javier Hernandez.

Mexico international Hernandez is the subject of strong interest from Serie A outfit Inter Milan, who have opened negotiations with the Red Devils, and a deal could be struck within a week.

And according to Tutto Mercato Web, PSG hitman Cavani has been identified by the Premier League giants as the ideal man to take his place.

The Uruguay star has become frustrated with life in the French capital, having played second fiddle to talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic in his first 12 months at the club.

The report claims his agent thinks a switch to England is the best option on the table, particularly Old Trafford where he would be expected to provide strong competition for the likes of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie.

Despite sometimes being used out of position he still plundered 22 goals in 39 appearances for Laurent Blanc’s side last season.

United would not be expected to match the £55million fee that PSG paid Serie A side Napoli for his services last summer and they could test the water with an opening offer of around £34m, partly funded by the cash generated by the sale of Hernandez.
