Juventus refuse to rule out Eto’o swoop

Juventus CEO Beppe Marotta has not ruled out a move for ex-Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o.

The Italian told a host of foreign reporters attending a pre-season press conference that he is yet to approach the 33-year-old, but admitted the Turin giants will keep their options open after losing new signing Alvaro Morata to injury.

Spaniard Morata suffered a knee injury in one of his first training sessions following his arrival from Real Madrid and has been ruled out for at least two months.

Juve have made no secret of the fact that the setback leaves them in need of another forward and Marotta said: “We never talked about him (Eto’o), however, the squad must have five strikers and at the moment it is missing one.

“In addition Morata will be absent for several months. We are looking for an attacker, but I will not say too much because the market is constantly changing. ”

Cameroon international Eto’o, whose involvement in the World Cup came to a premature end courtesy of a group stage exit, left Stamford Bridge earlier in the summer after running down the final weeks of his contract.

He is believed to be pursuing a 24-month contract worth somewhere in the region of £3.1million per year, but most suitors have so far only offered a one-year arrangement.

Eto’o plundered 12 goals for Jose Mourinho’s side in all competitions last term after arriving from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala at the end of August last year.
