Italian giants fight for Saints striker

Osvaldo

Inter Milan are reportedly prepared to battle it out with Juventus for the summer signature of Southampton striker Dani Osvaldo.

According to fresh reports from Italian source Tutto Mercato Web, the San Siro giants have not given up on landing the controversial targetman despite facing stiff competition from Serie A champions Juve.

The report claims Inter boss Walter Mazzarri has set his sights on adding a forward to his squad before the start of next season in order to improve on last term’s fifth-place finish in the table, five points behind Fiorentina, who came fourth.

A much bigger concern for Mazzarri was the gap between his team and top dogs Juve, who ended the campaign a daunting 42 points clear of Inter.

The TMW report reveals Osvaldo’s latest suitors are keen to snap him up on loan with a view to a permanent deal at the end of the 2014-15 season, with a pre-determined fee to be settled in the coming weeks.

However, they are yet to ascertain whether the Saints are willing to once again farm him out on a temporary basis, as they did in the second half of the previous campaign to Juve.

He was ushered out of the exit door after becoming embroiled in a training ground bust-up with team-mate Jose Fonte at the start of the year.
