Man United set to splash £27.7m on German winger

Football Express News understands that Manchester United have held a meeting to discuss the potential signing of Marco Reus from Borussia Dortmund and have given boss Louis van Gaal the green light to make the move.

The German winger was one of the stand out performers in European football last season and played a big part in helping his side reach the latter stages of the Champions League, aswell as finishing runners-up to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.

Reus, who narrowly missed out on a place in the German national team due to injury, which he suffered a World Cup warm-up friendly, has since received heavy interest from a number of top European clubs.

Barcelona, arguably the most serious, have held a long term interest in the former Borussia Monchengladbach player but decided to splash the cash in Luis Suarez from Liverpool instead.

That has led Man United and Liverpool to show interest with both sides willing to pay the £27.7m release clause which Dortmund announced was set in his contract earlier this week.

United boss Louis van Gaal has since been given the green light to spend that money on the German international if he desires, whilst German champions Bayern Munich are also said to be showing increased interest.
