Everton close in on Belgium youth striker

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has confirmed the Toffees are on the brink of sealing their move for R.S.C. Anderlecht forward David Henen.

The 18-year-old Belgian is believed to have flown into the UK last weekend before undertaking his medical with Everton on Monday.

He is set to be the Merseyside Blues’ second signing of the summer transfer window and a deal worth in the region of £1.5m is on the verge of completion.

Anderlecht reserve Henen, who enjoyed a loan stint in the French Riviera with AS Monaco’s B-team, has also featured in the Belgium national team’s youth sides at under-15 and under-18 level.

Martinez has plans to develop the promising teenager in the club’s under-21s and believes he possess the skill, experience and mental sharpness to make a real difference to the side.

The Spanish head coach told Liverpool ECHO: “He’s a young, talented footballer who represents Belgium in the lower teams, in the under-18s and has had good experience in going to France.”

“He is a bright boy and we feel he is something different that we haven’t got in the under-21s so we are hoping he is going to be giving us something different in that group,

“We want a strong group.  We have already got talented and very interesting footballers and I think David can fit in really well in that environment.”

Completion of the transfer is expected to be made official by the weekend.
