United legend Vidic opens up about Inter switch

Former Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic has revealed that he cannot wait to work under Inter Milan head coach Walter Mazzarri.

Vidic, who decided to leave the Red Devils towards the end of a torrid 2013-14 campaign which culminated in then-manager David Moyes being sacked, joined the San Siro giants on a free transfer.

It brought down the curtain on a trophy-laden eight-year stint at Old Trafford, which included the memorable Champions League final victory over rivals Chelsea in Moscow in 2008, with a nail-biting contest won on penalties.

The 32-year-old addressed a host of foreign reporters at the start of Inter’s pre-season tour of the USA, which will see them take part in the International Champions Cup this weekend.

He said: “It is really amazing to have arrived here in the States.

“I cannot wait to start the International Champions Cup and other major challenges in Europe.

“Mazzarri is a great coach who does work hard and it is a pleasure to have him as a coach. I immediately settled here.”

The departure of long-serving trio Vidic, Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra this summer marked the end of an era for United.

Ferdinand is now a Queens Park Rangers player, while Evra has joined Serie A champions Juventus.
