Football Express News understands that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is making serious moves to sign Sporting Lisbon defender William Carvalho.
The Gunners are in need of a defensive midfielder and have failed in their recent attempts to sign Real Madrid’s German Sami Khedira.
That has now led boss Arsene Wenger to show increased interest in William Carvalho, a player very much linked with a move to the Premier League this summer.
The 22-year-old, who can play in defensive midfield or central defence had gained interest from Manchester City and Manchester United.
But, after City signed another Portuguese based defender in Eliaquim Mangala and United made moves for German Mats Hummels; Arsenal seem to have the go ahead to make a move.
Carvalho holds a £35m release clause at Sporting but with Arsenal’s officials claiming they are prepared to spend big again this summer, he could join in the next few weeks.
