Remy takes 20k pay cut to join Liverpool

Football Express News understands that French striker Loic Remy took a £20,000 per week wage cut to join Liverpool and play Champions League football.

The end of this week will see Liverpool announce the summer signing of French striker Loic Remy from Queens Park Rangers.

The former Marseille striker enjoyed a fruitful loan spell with Newcastle United in the Premier League last season, scoring 15 league goals under boss Alan Pardew.

But, since the end of the season, he has been linked with a summer move away from newly promoted QPR to the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.

And, after several negotiations between Remy’s agent and the Merseyside club, the striker will link up with his new team-mates over the next few days.

Remy, who was offered a massive contract by Spurs, turned down their approach as he cited a need and desire to play Champions League football, something he hasn’t done since he left Marseille two seasons ago.

The striker arrived in Boston earlier today to undergo a medical, but is understood that he further took a pay-cut of £20,000 to join Liverpool.
