Spurs poised to confirm swap deal

Davies

Tottenham Hotspur are on the brink of making official the arrival of Swansea City left-back Ben Davies following the emergence of screenshot images yesterday in which the player can clearly be seen training with the team on a pre-season session in Toronto.

The images, which were leaked via social media outlets Twitter and Facebook, were grabbed from an official Spurs training video which forms part of a video diary tour of the team away on their pre-season summer fixtures.

In the video, Davies, who came up through the Swansea youth academy, is wearing Spurs gear and undertaking part of a training routine alongside defender Michael Dawson.

The 21-year-old is expected to form part of a trade-off with Icelandic midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson – who arrived at the south Wales club to undertake his medical yesterday.

Sigurdsson, 30, joined Spurs two years ago and prior to that he played on loan for five months to Swansea from German side 1899 Hoffenheim.

As a Swans player he made an instant impact on the side, scoring against Arsenal on his Premier League debut in January 2012 and finding the back of the net another six times during his brief spell at the club, including once against Tottenham.

The Icelandic playmaker was Premier League player of the month in March 2012 and Swansea missed out on their quest to sign him at the end of that season when a proposed deal of £6.8m fell through on the departure of ex-boss Brendan Rodgers, who moved north to take charge of Merseyside giants Liverpool.

An official confirmation of the switch is expected to be made in the next 24 hours.
