Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo is unlikely to face Sevilla in the European Super Cup through a knee injury.

The Portuguese forward has been struggling with a knee injury since the April 2 Champions League tie with Borussia Dortmund last season, yet he managed to play through the pain during the World Cup with his country.

Madrid had hoped that the former Manchester United forward would have some rest period this summer, which infact he did get after Portugal were eliminated in the group stages in Brazil.

But, Ronaldo is understood to be still suffering from the same knee injury, which he will not risk against La Liga rivals and Europa League winners Sevilla in the European Super Cup.

Ronaldo is expected to join up with the Madrid squad on their tour of North America in the coming days but it is thought he will play a small part in their on-field plans, with Madrid physic’s cautious of the ongoing problems.
